Maryland Name Change Requirements
Maryland law requires certain things before you can file for a name change (for an adult) and/or during the name change process in Maryland. These requirements include:
- You must currently live in Maryland.
- You must currently live in the county where the name change action will be filed.
- You must be an adult, 18 years of age or older.
- You must not be currently under indictment for a crime, felony and/or misdemeanor.
- You must not be requesting the name change to avoid creditors.
- You must not be involved in a bankruptcy proceeding.
To use our products and services you must not have ever registered as a sexual offender.
Requirements to File for a Change of Name for a Minor in Maryland
Maryland law requires certain things before you can file for a name change (for a minor) and/or during the name change process in Maryland. These requirements include:
- The child must be a minor, 17 years of age or younger.
- The minor currently lives in Maryland.
- The minor currently lives in the county where the name change action will be filed.
- The minor must not have been convicted of any crime, felony and/or misdemeanor.
- The minor must not be currently under indictment for a crime, felony and/or misdemeanor.
- The minor must not be requesting the name change to avoid creditors.
- The minor must not be involved in a bankruptcy proceeding.
Written consent to the name change must be provided by all adults who retain legal rights over the minor.
